What is the difference between UVA and UVB damage?
UVB exposure causes redness or burning, while UVA exposure causes skin darkening/pigmentation. Protection from both UVA and UVB means this product provides Broad Spectrum protection. Total Protection™ Face Shield SPF 50 provides Broad Spectrum SPF 50 (UVB protection) and PA+++ (UVA protection).

What is EnviroScreen™ Technology?
EnviroScreen™ Technology is proprietary to Colorescience®. It uses patented active ingredients, Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide, to form a protective barrier that helps prevent free radical formation and oxidative stress. These ingredients work together to protect skin from UVA/UVB rays, pollution, blue light (HEV light), and infrared radiation.

Can you explain how adherence/water- and sweat-resistance is tested?
Water resistance is tested per FDA guidelines. A panel of 10 people applies the product before immersion in a whirlpool for repeated 20-minute cycles. After the full test duration (40 or 80 minutes), SPF is measured. If SPF 50 remains after 80 minutes, the product is rated SPF 50 with 80 minutes water resistance.

How do you measure pollution protection?
Pollution protection is measured by assessing free radical formation using electron spin resonance (ESR), which detects unpaired electrons from UV + pollution exposure on protected vs. unprotected skin.

How do you measure blue (HEV) light protection?
Blue light protection is tested by applying the product to a transparent substrate and measuring light transmission through the HEV spectrum (400–490 nm). The blocked percentage is calculated by comparing transmitted vs. incident light.

How often should I apply?
Apply 15 minutes before sun or environmental exposure. Reapply every 2 hours. Use the Total Protection™ Brush-on Shield SPF 50 for easy reapplication over makeup.

How long will the product last?
Used once daily, the product lasts about 90 days.

Do I need to moisturize before? / Does this replace my moisturizer?
It hydrates and nourishes but works best on moisturized skin, especially if skin is dry or delicate.

Can this be applied on the body?

Is there a color/tint to it?
It has a universal tint from iron oxides, but dries clear with no white residue.

Will it work with all skin tones?
Yes, the universal shade is suitable for all skin tones and dries invisible.

Will it leave a white cast or residue on my skin?
No, it was specifically formulated to avoid white cast with its proprietary technology.

How long do I have to wait before going into the sun?

Is there an expiration date?
Yes. It has a 2-year shelf life. Once opened, it’s good for about 12 months. Check the bottom of the carton for the exact date.
