Threads, also known as PDO threads, are a minimally invasive cosmetic treatment offered at the Aesthetic Center of Richmond Dermatology. Threads are made from a biodegradable material called polydioxanone (PDO) and are used to lift and tighten lax skin on the face and body. The Threads are inserted underneath the skin using a small needle, and as they dissolve, they stimulate collagen production and create a more youthful and lifted appearance. Threads can be used on various areas of the face and body. This innovative treatment offers a safe and effective way to achieve natural-looking results without surgery or downtime.

A deeper peel targets more severe signs of aging, such as deep wrinkles and age spots. It’s suitable for most skin types except sensitive skin.

How do Threads work?

Is the treatment painful?

Patients may experience mild discomfort during treatment, and numbing cream or local anesthesia can be used to minimize any discomfort. Additionally, we offer other comfort options such as ProNox or CBD oil to manage pain and anxiety during the treatment.

What is the downtime after treatment?

Most patients experience moderate tenderness of the treated area with more mild swelling and bruising. Patients can resume most daily activities immediately after the procedure however exertional exercise and heavy lifting should be avoided for up to ten days. Additionally, patients should avoid facial massage and dental work for four weeks.

How long do the results of Threads last?

The results of Threads can last up to 12-18 months, depending on the individual's skin type and other factors. After this time, further treatment may be required to maintain the results.
